I don't think you can make too much contact when it comes to your downline. In fact, if a new affiliate is truly ready to build this business (or any business for that matter), they will probably be contacting you! Once I joined SFI, I was constantly contacting my sponsor and co-sponsor with questions I couldn't find the answers too or things I didn't understand. Actually, it probably took me a few days since I was a little unsure of what I signed up for in the beginning. As soon as I realized how great this opportunity could be, I felt like I was bugging my sponsors! :) I'm probably lucky they are such great sponsors. In my opinion, new affiliates who are hungry for this opportunity will also be hungry for communication with their upline, as I have been.
Even in a daily "9-5" job, when you want to move forward, work hard, and promote, you generally want your employer to communicate with you. Not necessarily by just giving verbal praise or rewards, but by you giving tips and more information on how you can further yourself in your job, become a better employee, and eventually develop into an amazing leader!
Another thing to think about: a new affiliate could be three generations down from you, but might not have support from his/her personal sponsor. It could be for various reasons, maybe even reasons beyond their sponsor's control. You may not know what communication they're receiving from their sponsor, especially if the sponsor is a couple of Gen's away from you and doesn't communicate with you. This is why I send a weekly newsletter to my entire team - PSAs, CSAs, and all the generations SFI allows me to contact :) This way, my team hears from me at least once a week. I include the following things:
1. A quick congrats to the team for their hard work
2. The number of new PSAs that joined our team
3. Team recognition (even if it's just an affiliate who won 2 free T-Credits in the T-Time drawing)
4. Some kind of theme or new information SFI is promoting (one newsletter was called "What's Your Focus?" and encouraged my affiliates to think about where they are putting their time...training, advertising opportunity, advertising sales, etc.)
5. Maybe a challenge for the week or an incentive I'm offering.
6. My "signature" and after that, a tip for the week (kind of like the P.S. added to the end of a letter).
I also send separate emails periodically; to all PSAs, to all CSAs, or even just to an individual or two, if I have some important or helpful info to share that might apply only to them. Some people end up getting a few emails from me per week, but I know they all get at least one. If I see a yellow bubble for one of my downline members, I might send a quick message to let them know I'm online for a bit and they can let me know if they need anything.
Again, it all comes down to the hunger. If they are truly ready, they will hunger for your support - even if they aren't Fast Trackers, or even if it takes them a year to come around. Some may never ask for support, but that might not mean they aren't reading your messages. Keep those lines of communication open by contacting your entire downline as often as you feel it is needed to disperse important info, recognize achievement, and offer support or encouragement!
