Technically, you are correct as there is no sound produced to be able to listen. As “most of the communication” is online, hence in written form, you can only be a good communicator in the perspective.
Having mentioned above “most of the communication” as there are chance that you are either communicating with some of your team members on skype or through telecom if they are from your own country. Here the aspect of listening would be of prime importance and you have to apply all basics to be a good listener.
Although we are in the process of online marketing or business promotions where direct contact with people may not exist but the possibility can not be eliminated completely. Therefore, having the listening skill would be of added advantage.
Further, when having written communication you can apply all the basics of good listener in being a good reader. Read the content of the message thoroughly, be patient before replying and understanding the inference of the message received. Sometimes, you have to read between the lines and understand the message in that perspective to be able to reply.
I hope communicating with our team on various issues of theirs would make us realize on day to day basis that we apply the basics of listening more often than not.
Hence online business does not eliminate the importance of listening skills rather asks you of being more receptive.
