To answer you question, think of it as being a prerequisite to getting people (in this case your downline) to do what you are doing. If you are an EA, then you'd at least want your downline members to strive for the rank of EA.
As an EA, you'll need to know and understand the business as much as you can. One of your roles as a team member would, then, be to elevate everyone below you to a higher level of commitment for obvious reasons -- namely, in order to get to the higher level, they must work the program, accumulate VersaPoints, and in doing so, your team becomes pro-active, thus increasing the overall productivity of the team.
