Which is more effective--paid or free advertising--and why?
Paid advertising is more effective because when free advertising is used, the audience that you are advertising to really have interest in what you have to offer. While when paid advertising is used, the audience has more interest in what is being offered because they are probably getting great information and have trust in who owns the list that you are advertising to. Paid advertising shows who's serious and free advertising is great for those with little or no budget.
Paid Advertising is more effective of course. Since your aim of advertising is to get affiliates into your team. When you use paid advertising, you get more crowd which means more money.
Free advertising might not really give you what you want. Because you might not get enough crowd that you desire.

But we must specify 3 cases as follow:
1 - in site advertising totally free
2 - in site advertising totally paid
3 - insite partially paid and partially free
In the cases 1 and 2 advertising paid is as effective as advertising free
But in the case 3, advertising paid is more than advertising free, because the paid advertising benefits of the best place, colours, and so on!

good question, I think the best answer is that no matter how much money you have but the commitment that each of us puts us, there are many ways to advertise both free and paid, it just depends on the commitment and the possibility that each of us have.
then just have patience, persistence and perseverance you can succeed

The two are effective because advertising is a good way to have ads in many place, so the more you have the more people can see them and the more they see them, they will want to know what is it about? When they do click on and it and join and the more that join and goes on with the business the payments start coming in, so the more people to takes this business and work with it, it will you too, to get paid.

I think that each ad, a good advertisement has been paid or not. Do any people find their way, the only thing they paid listings are usually visible, and hence people before getting caught in the eye.
it can happen to appoint 10 paid and that you are no one comes forward, until you put one somewhere unpaid and attain your contacts, of course it can be, and vice versa. Actually'll try rec no rules that is better!

The ad is paid to more entry, but the entrants are mostly inactive, hardly one or two.
The free advertising to attract only those who truly are interested in the system.
Overall, however, I have to say though, either way, advertise, because I do not know which one is really attractive potential members.
This question and answer was well articulated in one of SFI's tips/forums. I read it somewhere but I just could not find exactly where it is to send the link but never mind I will some day. So much information to chew on, it feels like a gold mind in here ,the more you dig the more you discover. However, I will still give my take on this.
Both methods are effective and are relative to the group you are targeting. The paid advertisement may require less work because you may have folks working on your behalf and because that is their job their efforts may be harder but still may not craft it exactly to suit you. The free ads can be effective as well but would require some more effort on your part to ensure that it gets to the right group of people and they are strong enough to sell your product.
Although I have not done much advertising except one on one conversations I will go for both for starter to really judge the more effective one.
