Actually the idea of a team leader rank is to have a team of which you are the leader and the main reasons why some advice against becoming a team leader without an active team is because you may be unable to sustain the rank without receiving team support VP and other earnings from an active team, which may contribute towards your investment capital.
This notwithstanding, some others also advice that it is appropriate to become a team leader as soon as you can and not having an active team should not be an obstacle because there are benefits and perks associated with a team leader's rank, especially the share of second home CSAs which is capable of generating income for you, assuming you are lucky to receive active ones. Another point is that why you enjoy the benefits and perks of a team leader, it does not stop you from building your team and I hold this opinion, at least for those who can afford it.
Having said that, I still think is makes for better business sense if you have a team, especially if you cannot afford it, so rather than been discouraged at some point because the cost to you is not being offset or reduced by an active team, it may be worthwhile to spend your time and effort directed at building an active team. You may notice that some who can afford to 'buy' their team leaders status also get discouraged at some point, especially when it is taking too long to build an active team and it starts to manifest that they are either being proud with their ranks and broke in their pockets or they are just ‘building castle in the air’.
I have approached this issue by attempting to provide an answer, using a more generic method which is why I have discussed both scenarios, including the advantages and disadvantages. I take responsibility and offer my apology for showing a little bias towards the second scenario. However, since I cannot determine every aspiring team leader's circumstances, hence the discussion on both sides. At this juncture, I will leave you to fit yourself into any of the above scenarios and make the final decision as to what best suits you.
