I know my answer is too late to be in the competition for best answer, but I think it will be helpful.
There are two types of affiliates, there if you count people who do nothing.
1. I want my own business, Affiliates
And
2. "Me too" business affiliates.
Number one you cannot help too much. He/she is looking for every way, every idea, every and anything to advance HIS business. He/ she is a leader, owner, learner, doer and thinker. That person will take your good ideas and make them better. You can never help them too much.
Number two you cannot help too much. The only limiting factor is, how much is too much for you? They just wants to earn in your shadow. They want you to get them affiliates, advertise for them, tell them what to do and how to do it. They want to follow. In a sense they are content "working for you". They do not want to lead. The limit on how much you help them is how much will it help you.
For example, suppose your "me too" affiliate is not going to make EA this month, but your 79 action VP from Gold. It may help you to help him get his SO paid for. Or say you have a new ECA you recruited and want to encourage him. Give your me too affiliate a Gift Certificate to try one of their newly listed products. This helps you, this helps "me too".
As for me? I want to be Me, not "me too" I want to say, "I am going to buy that...." Not a person who sees my car and yells, "Me too, me too, I wish I had one too."
