I think this is something that has to be coached. Obviously, some people are going to have an easier time with this than others, but it is important that, as the sponsor, you help coach them to make the transition.

For those that do need more assistance the first few weeks, asking questions, helping them figure out how to make money, and where to go to get the tasks done is critical. With these people, it would be helpful to give them a list (and SFI makes it easy with their To-Do list), much as a supervisor in a job might do. Keep referring them back to that, encourage them to do the other aspects that generate points and earn money, like playing the games, bidding on auctions, and marketing their gateways. Encourage them to be creative! Don't be surprised if you have to repeat things several times- it takes people time to learn a new job, just as it takes time to learn a new attitude or mentality.

As they learn the business, of course they are going to need less 'supervision', and they will be able to take a more proactive approach to their business. The most important thing to remember is patience. New affiliates who are willing to work the business are a goldmine, and it takes time to get a goldmine functioning profitably!

Good question Maria.

For me, you can use a lot of questions for the affiliates think as example:
i. Are you satisfied with the earnings you got from your work?
ii. Do you feel hard to wake up in the morning to go to work?
iii. Do you feel frustrated when your work not appreciated by the others?
iv. Do you feel frustrated when you cannot do what you want?
v. Do you have time to go to long holiday with family?
With these questions (and you can ask many more questions related to the affiliates concern) you can make them think.

Then you can tell them what is the benefit of being a ‘BOSS’ for their own business like:
i. You will determine how much you want for monthly income.
ii. You will have flexible hours to work.
iii. The final decision is yours.
iv. You can what you want and fulfill your desire as business owner.
v. You can go holiday whenever you want and how long the holiday will be.
And of course you can tell them many others benefit as the business owner and make them confidence they can do it.

Last, you can explain how they can become a business owner with SFI. Show them there are many people had succeed in SFI and they all start from zero. Everybody can own the business, it is the matter whether they want to do it or not.

How do I turn affiliates employee mentality into a business owner mentality?

I can very well relate to this question because I often been asked by potential affiliates how they are going to be paid, thinking that they are
going in as an employee on a regular salary and how much they are going to be paid and how often are they going to be paid. It is truly a shock to them when I tell them that they are going to own their own business and they will need to treat SFI as a business opportunity with potential to provide them a lifestyle of their dreams but there is work involved as they chartered the course of their own destiny.

It will take sometime before you can transform someone who are used to receiving their pay check on a regular basis and having an employer
provide them their benefits, health insurance and superannuation to suddenly find themselves having to run their own business and not live from pay check to pay check. It is through education and regular communication with affiliates to realised that they are now responsible for their own
success as an Online Entrepreneur. As a team leader, you will need to educate your team members the importance of team work and how they can set their own goals to make their business work for them.

Encouraged your team to avail themselves of the various training programs provided through the SFI website how to plan, coordinate and implement the various marketing tools, power tools and most of all how to run their business to earn profits. Teach them how to generate sales at the TripleClicks store and how to sponsor new members through Marketing . Encourage them to become an ECA and show them the various ECA strategies they can use to make their respective businesses into a profitable venture.

It may take a while before all the information gets absorb and incorporated into the affiliates "psyche" but with perseverance and regular training and feedback from you and helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations with their SFI business they will eventually realised that a paradigm shift is about to happen. If they can see the benefits and the freedom of being able to run their own business the way they want to they are more likely to develop that business owner mentality and be able to be grateful for the opportunity afforded to them.

In conclusion, I would like to say that no matter how hard it is to transform your affiliates mindset at the beginning they will soon realised that when they achieved success as an Entrepreneur or a business owner that they would prefer to become a business owner who are able to enjoy the financial freedom that they created themselves through their own effort and their team.. First, you need to distinguish the characteristics of these two mentalities, so we know with whom we are dealing.

Employee mentality:

- Working for a monthly salary.
- Do not take the initiative and responsibility.
- Thinks the employer is happy to have him at all.
- Doing only what he says.

On the other hand, entrepreneurial mentality

- He has a bigger picture and always have in mind the greater good.
- Job gives him personal satisfaction.
- He's lucky he is part of the company where he works.
- Take the initiative and responsibility.
- The word "business" is not just a part of his vocabulary.
- It is his responsibility to see that his job is done. Nobody can do this for me.

Now when we have such a clearly separated features, we can observe these people in our team. Unfortunately, there are many more of those in the first category. Despite everything, I'm not sure you even need to invest effort for people who do not take the initiative and assume responsibility. They are, in our case, does not even work according to our instructions, and we always need to be reminded that we should work with workers. So, this is a job where you depend exclusively by your own actions and activities.

My point is that you cannot change people who do not already have the mentality of entrepreneurs. On our team lists, they are already separated, when you look at the TL ranks.

It takes a lot of courage on part of Individual to start something new . It is human tendency. And for an affiliate who is working as an employee and at the same time has joined SFI, the situation is more complex.

As a sponsor or a team leader we should compliment the affiliates who have chosen SFI as a part time business along with their present occupation as employee.

We need to give them sufficient time to understand the SFI business model and should give encouragement when they achieve some milestone. When they have some questions about the compensation plan we should explain it clearly.

Through our communication we should send the articles that highlight benefit of entrepreneurship and describe the qualities of entrepreneurs. We will be their role model and have to remind them in every communication to take ownership of their actions which is essential to achieve financial independence they desire. Sending inspiration and motivation quotes, through stream, team mails, personal mails , Skype etc can help us to communicate with them more and more. Only with positive communication and appreciation of movers in the team in team mail we can induce pride in these affiliates for being a successful business owner.We have to act as their mentor.

One way to make them think as business owner is to ask them to set their goals and ask them to discuss their plan to achieve these goals. Here during this discussion you will come to know about their risk taking ability , passion and structured way of thinking. We need to provide them the corrective action plan once we notice some signs of Employee mentality.

Great question! The Employee Mentality is a hard habit to break, especially when so many people are out there advertising a business opportunity as a "job."

I would suggest writing up a blog post, either on your own blog or in the blog section of your Leadership page laying out a comparison of Employee vs. Business Owner to try and drive that point home. For example:

Employees "get paid" regardless of how much or how little work they do. They're sort of under a "contract" to get paid for how many hours they show up at the office, but not by the amount of actual productivity while they're there.

Business Owners earn revenue by actually producing, whether they show up at an office or do their work from home.

Employees get sick days, personal days, vacation days, so they even "get paid" when they don't show up for "work."

Business Owners, especially during the business building phase, don't earn any revenue if they don't make sales or don't participate in the daily operations of their business. Taking any "time off" could greatly reduce their level of income.

Employees have Jobs. (Just Over Broke) The only time they'll earn more than they're hired for is by working overtime or getting a raise. Other than that, they make the same amount of pay no matter how hard they work.

Business Owners have the ability to make as much as they want! They have no boss telling them they only earn $9 or $10 per hour even if they work their butts off.

Then ask them - are you an employee of SFI or a Business Owner? It may take some people a long time to actually understand and accept the difference, but once they do, they'll realize that being a business owner, and owning that mentality, will be a big benefit in how they work their business.

Great question Maria.

I think it starts with Gery Carson, the owner of SFI, and when he makes the statement of treating Tripleclicks as YOUR store.

On the surface it may sound just like a typical motivational business type statement. But once you start to realize what SFI is all about and what it stands for you, you realize he actually means that. Even though SFI and Tripleclicks are his businesses, he wants everybody to develop a mindset of ownership. To develop that mindset he wants us to treat the business like it is our business and the Tripleclicks store like it's our store and for us to actually believe that it is.

Once you actually believe in that philosophy now you should start to have a mentality of responsibility, of ownership, and have now stepped out of the realm of employee.

We are not working for Gery Carson, SFI, Tripleclicks or our upline. We are working for ourselves. The SFI staff, leaders, affiliates, upline, downline, and Gery Carson are the springboards that help get us to becoming actual owners.

By teaching affiliates this principle I think it will go a long way to taking the employee mentality out of the mind and putting the business owner mindset into the mind.

Right from your 1st contact with your PSAs, your welcome letter, make it crystal clear that they are the Business Owners and your role is to be their sponsor. You will have to keep hammering this message home for some of them before they will understand. Tell them that they are the Boss. They do not work for you or SFI. They work for themselves.

I let them know that their success in SFI is dependent entirely on them. If they don't work, their businesses will not grow and they will not earn any money.

When communicating with them keep using phrases like:
'Grow your Business' 'Your business plans''How can I help you grow your business'' Log in and activate your business'etc....

When milestones are met, send them messages congratulating them for running their business successfully. Really encourage them to stand on their own two feet.

Do not develop dependents.

If they ask for information that are readily available within SFI, don't just give them the information. I direct them to the relevant links and show them how to search for the information themselves.

If they ask for direction as to what to do - don't give them orders. I always make suggestions and make it clear that it is their call, their decision as to what to do.

Keep on enforcing the message that they are the Business Owners.

An excellent question. It is precisely that change in mentality that will ultimately determine whether or not a new business owner succeeds.

Try drawing a simple picture for them (or taking out a photograph you prepared earlier). A picture of a nice delicious-looking pie, with one slice cut and pulled slightly out of place.

Tell them that everything they do for their employer must result in a gain or profit of some kind. If it doesn't, they won't have a job for long.

Then point to the picture and explain that when they work for someone else, what they get back as a result of their efforts is the slice of pie. The size of the slice may vary, but it will still be just a slice. What their employer gets is the rest of the pie.

Ask them if they would prefer to have the slice, or the rest of the pie. If they just want the slice, look for another prospect. If they say they want the rest of the pie, remind them that someone had to either buy or bake the pie first, and they had to give that missing slice to someone else in order to keep the rest. If they still want the rest of the pie, you may have a winner.

Tell them to think about that pie every day, and to take at least one action a day that will help them move towards being able to keep that pie. And offer to help them as much as you can.

We all begin our career with SFI as Affiliates. We join SFI fully knowing that its a net work marketing organization and get over night rich attitude will not help.

We have to see this as our own business seriously.

Unless we put in our heart and soul into it, we will not be able to make progress leave alone earning money.

It would be very opt if I quote SFI Founder Gery who says:

Of course not! That's ridiculous. SFI is no different. Success requires commitment.

Treat Business Like Business

I am continually amazed at how many people think that money will somehow magically fall from the sky without work, without plans, or without an earnest commitment. All these elements (and others you'll read about in the following rules) MUST be present.

The fact is, anything worthwhile in life requires effort and commitment. If that were not true, we'd all be the perfect weight, we'd all have perfect relationships, and we'd all be highly educated. It's the same thing with having your own business.

In short, if you treat your SFI business as a serious, full-time business, put in the effort and commit to its success, it will become a serious, full-time business.

Unquote:

An employee is just a fraction of a part of an Organization.
An employee doesn't invest his own money;
An Employee's growth depends just not on his own performance alone;
An Employee's earning potential is limited;
An Employee's commitment level varies from person to person;

It's mostly the opposite of these for a Business Owner.

If we truly understand the spirit of Gery's commitment vis-a-vis SFI's growth today, we can certainly be able to prove to any one that he or she is not just a part of SFI but SFI itself!!
