A follow up ensures an interested individual. Based on the conversation that you have you should be able to tell if they are serious about trying out the gift card or not. A followup also acts as a reminder just in case the gift card was forgotten about.

I would hand them out and ask to follow up with them the next day. This is why I think the one-a-day-plan is great (https://www.sfimg.com/GCguide/GCguide) because if you hand out 10 - 15 - 30 cards at a time then you might spend your whole day just trying to followup without generating a real connection with them. It is more important to find someone to use the card rather than just handing them out like coupons at a supermarket.

When they are not being used don't get discouraged. Have an attitude of the next gift card will be used, along with the next one, and so forth and so on.

You know that SFI is great. It just means that person was skeptical for whatever reason and shied away from a great opportunity. I doubt it was your approach or anything, but just a lack of understanding of what Tripleclicks is all about.

The TripleClicks gift cards that you purchase become a form of advertising to gain Personal Referred Members (PRMs). With this form of advertising it is costing you approximately $1.00 for each contact or lead.

It really does not matter if you are using the physical plastic card or the virtual card the objective is still the same – to gain PRMs and/or leads to work with.

The more cards that you distribute to the public, weather they are your warm market or total strangers and/or people on-line, the more chances you have of obtaining an active PRM. Also remember that the cards have no expiration date so they are still good for however long SFI is in business.

With the above being said – it is next to impossible to “ensure” that any person will use the card you gave them. The good thing is the card has real value. Most people will not throw the card away even after having it for a couple months or more.

You asked “What do you do if they are not used?” If you're just randomly handing them out without obtaining information on contacting them later there is nothing you can do except to collect your points for giving out the card and hope someday they will use it.

I have found that the best way to give the gift cards to people is to have them give me their contact information or they don’t get the card.

When I give the cards out on line I have them fill out a form for their name and email address. I then instruct them to go to TripleClicks (I give them the link) and sign up as a free member under me. When TripleClicks informs me that I have a new member I look up their name on my previous form and email them the redemption code for the card.

Once they have received the card I keep an eye on the Gift Card Tracker this will inform me when the card has been redeemed. Then I send them a $2.00 gift certificate to encourage them to purchase again. (30 day expiration on certificate)

If they have not used the card I follow up by sending them an email containing information about how to use the card for purchases or auctions.

When I follow the system above most of the cards end up getting used. And I also have a contact to work with for converting them into an affiliate (in due time).

It simple boils down to – Don’t give out a card in person or on-line unless you also obtain their contact information.

Be wise in your advertising.

TC gift cards are a great way to market your SFI business.

While you cannot totally ensure that they will be used one thing that you can do to encourage their use is by the supporting information that you give with these cards.

If the cards are going to be sent by email then write something that will entice the person to be curious enough to use the card eg. give a little synopsis of what the card can be used for: bid on auctions, as discount for purchase etc.
If possible ensure that the communication matches the person to whom the card is being sent.

If the card is being handed out then take a few minutes to be excited and to try to excite the receiver into action.
Whatever you do add some special effects to ensure that the card will be redeemed.

If they are not redeemed then you should consider it a loss, as I would not suggest that you try to reissue them as this may create problems if the first person then tries to redeem at a later stage.

If possible, (someone you know) continue to encourage them to redeem the card.

Good question!
I don't think you can 'ensure' that your TC gift cards are activated because that implies 100% guaranteed take up!
But I do think you can improve and maximise the activation rate!

Handing out TC gift cards to random strangers will probably get you a very low activation rate, so anything you can do to engage the person in conversation! so you can introduce them to TC, PriceBenders auctions or the Eager Zebra games, will improve that rate.

Targeting 'warm' contacts or places where people are more likely to enjoy games or an auction will also improve the activation rate, e.g. Betting shops, bingo halls.

Another thing you can try which may improve your activation rate, and also helps to solve your question about what to do when TC gift cards aren't activated, is to put an expiry date on them! Tell the person you give it to how long they have until it becomes invalid! As you know, TC gift have don't have an expiry date but you can control that yourself by using the gift card tracker! Give them a deadline and it will encourage them to use it before they lose it! Then, once the deadline has passed, you can reassign that gift card to someone else! You decide how long a period works best... A month, a week or 'special offer, today only!'.

I work a lot with JV giveaways and free items. I offer the gift cards as a bonus for downloading my free gift. When I do this I automatically get their email address as they have to contact me at an email list I use just for the gift cards. When they sign up to my list I send them the gift card along with my TC link so the card can be honoured.

I usually give them 60 days to use the card. I do send them emails in the meantime reminding them of how long they have to use the cards. This usually works for me and the majority of the cards get used. Not only that but I also have their email and permission to contact them with marketing offers until such time as they withdraw that permission. That means I can market SFI to them while they are deciding to use the card.

The TC Gift Cards are a recruitment aid.

Its purpose is for the recipient to login to TripleClick and us the card and hopefully join TC and become your PRM. You want them to use the card, to experience TripleClicks.

I would suggest that before giving out the cards, you record contact details of the recipient and make sure they clearly understand what it is for. Pointless giving them away if the recipients do not know what to do with them. Stay in contact with them - remember they are your potential PRM and may even become PSA or ECA.

If after a period they do not use the card, contact them and remind them that the cards are valuable and again what it is for. Even though the cards do not have an expiry date, you want them to be used as soon as possible. The longer they are not used the greater the chances of them being lost and never used - wasted.

Ensuring that the issued cards are used is very much much important as isuing them. What exactly I do to ensure them is

- At the time of issuing a Gift Card, you must note down some of the contact details like Email or Phone number of the member. So that you can contact them and remind when necessary.

- Just after issuing a gift card you can wait for a day if it is used. If it is not you can give a call to person and tell them about some of the offers available (deal of the day, hot deals, close outs) at the moment where he/she can use the give card.

- Then you can just hold and wait if he/she has used it for a week. If it is still not done, you can give them a call and tell them about some amazing closeouts which will be expired if he/she makes late.

- If you still not redeemed, you can follow them up occasionaly in 15 days and I am sure they will redeem it withing 2-3 follows as no one in this world hates getting a gift.
