Some reasons individuals may think they are not good at talking with people may include: I’m shy, I stutter, I live in a foreign country and do not speak the native tounge, or simply I don’t know how to do face-to-face marketing. Well, personal experience thought me, we tend to be better communicators then we think. We forget we are only half the communication, the other half of the responsibility lies with the listeners.
As mentioned, personal experience thought me we are often better at speaking then we think; however, I had to work at it, just as we have to work at building any skills we want. Communication is a skill. Talking to people is one form of communication. There are ways to avoid talking with people, while still communicating, such as social sites, emails and blogs. However, it appears from your question, you want to know how to address the issue of speaking with people.
I mentioned personal experience thought me; therefore, I will explain some of the background and hope to answer your question of “how can I talk to them about SFI and TripleClicks in a simple and easy way.” I am a reserved person, someone who is willing to observe and be in the background, but will speak up when I feel necessary. When my family moved from Hawaii to the continental United States of America in 1978, I thought I spoke English; however, I spoke what is known in Hawaii as Pidgin English, a mixture of English and Hawaiian. Through that move, I learned to doubt my ability to communicate verbally due to others taunts and being placed in Speech Therapy throughout Elementary and Middle School. People described me as painfully shy. I simply learned to avoid speaking with most people out of fear I would be judged for my accent and speech. Basically, I doubted my own ability to talk with people.
My change occurred following my choice to serve a religious mission for my church. I HAD to speak with people and learn a new language in order to share the message. When I returned home, I withdrew back into my shell again. I questioned what the difference was. Why had living in a foreign country, speaking a foreign language I had not mastered, been easy for me to speak with strangers, different compared to speaking with people at home. I realized the difference was I was passionate about sharing a message and did not worry about my supposed poor speech. I could speak well enough to hold conversations in the foreign language, so I was okay.
The equation I figured out is:
Passion (desire to share) + Knowledge (of a subject) + Trust (belief in self) = Strength in speaking with others.
So, trust yourself, learn all you can about SFI and TripleClicks and with your own passion, you will be able to speak with others about it. It may be awkward at first, but the more you do it, the more at ease you will become at doing it.
