Your question covers two aspects of team building:
- Building a team, where your affiliates are imparted of being valued members.
- Building a team, where your affiliates would clearly see that they’re part of something special.
If you’re a Team Leader/Sponsor one of your most important responsibilities is making your team members feel truly valued and part of something special, letting them know that without them, your SFI organization, your network—and frankly, you—would go nowhere.
But how do you do that on a regular basis? Here are four simple things that can go a long way:
- A big part of feeling valued occurs when team members are aware that they add something to your organization that no one else can.
To effectively convey this, think about how you approach “everyday conversations” with your team members. When you see them advancing to the next rank, go beyond the basic of sending E-cards congratulations. You can send a strong message of truly valuing someone’s achievement (for example moving up to TL rank and actively sponsoring affiliates) by reassigning active affiliates from your first generation.
The more you recognize your team members’ specific contributions to the team, the more irreplaceable they’ll feel.
- Let your team members know that they’re making a big impact in the development and growth of your entire SFI organization, as they log in daily and perform their To-Do List, invest in themselves by consistently expanding their knowledge base and engaging in activities that promote growth of their SFI business.
- Recognize them as individuals
To truly make individual members feel valued, it’s OK to single them out and reward them according to their accomplishments—and with something that the rest of the team won’t necessarily get. So, for example, if a team member’s gone above and beyond your expectation (for example advancing and maintaining his/her TL rank and maintaining his/her position in the Top 300 VP Leaderboard at the same time) include him/her in your S-Builder co-op or your own Ad co-op. Make him/her feel appreciated by giving back to him/her in the form of TCredits or Gift Certificates.
I’ve found that even simple, small gestures can go a long way: If I have a team member who’s done something exceptional, I’ll make known to my entire organization about his/her achievements and rewards.
You don’t want to ostracize the rest of your team—and you certainly don’t want to play favorites—so, it’s important to pay attention and actively look for opportunities to reward all the members of your team. But individually recognizing your team members for their specific achievements will spell it out, loud and clear: They really make a difference to you and to your entire SFI organization and that they’re valued members and part of something special.
