Leadership is a process by which sponsors influence the thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors of their affiliates. By having team members take on leadership role, their team members can help set a direction for the rest of the team; they help their affiliates see what lies ahead; they help their affiliates visualize what might be achieved; they can encourage and inspire the affiliates. Leadership helps to point all of us in the same direction and harness our efforts jointly. It is the ability to get other people to do something significant that they might not otherwise do. It’s energizing people toward a goal.
Taking a leadership position means several things. A leader must have a vision of the future for his or her SFI business and its members.
Team members who take a leadership position means:
• Having a vision about what can be accomplished in SFI.
• Making a commitment to the mission and to the affiliates they lead.
• Taking responsibility for the accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of affiliates they lead.
• Accepting recognition for success.
Of course, everyone in SFI has different values, opinions, attitudes, beliefs, cultural values, work habits, goals, ambitions and dreams. Because of this incredible diversity, it has never been more difficult and yet more necessary for leaders to emerge and form these people into high-performing teams. When you become a sponsor, even if your team only consists of one other person, you must immediately develop a whole new set of leadership skills. Same goes to your team members. We can't run away from the fact that DUPLICATION is the key to success. Only when your team members take on the leadership role, duplication can be a success.
"Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others." — Jack Welch
