I personally think that a Team Leader should take the responsibility not only to maintain or sustain but also to boost the momentum and morale of all the downline member affiliates at-least thrice a week. A simple word of appreciation or a pat on the shoulder of a member affiliate conveyed through any medium but it must be visible to all the team members, would work wonders among the team. This sympathetic act of appreciation would prompt among all the team members to receive the same, leading to some sort of healthy competition among the team members itself.
The act of maintaining or sustaining and boosting the momentum and morale among the team members of any sort would fall within the subject of Human Resources Management. All the team leaders who are either currently or in future leading a team may go through at-least some parts of the above-mentioned subject in case if they already do not possess knowledge about it.
About 98 percent of the people would require moral encouragement and support, however tough a person's mental strength may be, at some time or the other. And this timely encouragement and support would work on the psyche of the receiver as a talisman - thereby directly resulting in the boost of his morale and confidence levels.
There are various means and methods a Team Leader can adopt to convey his appreciation to his team member, the only criteria according to my personal view is that the act of appreciation should be made in the public arena and should be visible to all the team members.
