What does approaching people face to face mean? Do you go tap on the shoulder of a person and say “ Hey, join SFI. Buy from TripleClicks.”? No. Nobody does that.
When you see a person, you evaluate him/her.
If the person is not pre-occupied, go sit or stand near him/her.
Give a light smile. Most would smile back.
Ask for the time of the day.
If you are in the railway subway or at the bus terminus, ask for the next schedule.
May be you should appreciate her dress, or his tie.
You have already started a conversation.
May be you would say that you are getting late for a meeting.
Now drag the conversation towards your own business. If the person is nodding and responding, casually ask about his professional engagement. Now you have the opportunity to give your card.
I think this example is enough. Always remember that your approach is always casual. Let the person drag information out of you.
