Confirmation comes on two levels: reciept and reply.
Using the the SFI mails always sends a copy to you, so if you get it and they have a valid email address, they are getting it too. If they respond to your message then you have a confirmation that is better than any other using SFI mail.
Using your personal email account, you can use features that send you a return email when the email is opened. Usually their email client will ask them if they want to send the return receipt, so you will have a confirmation that they got the message.
The gold standard for either method of sending out an email is if they respond. They cannot respond without getting the emails. I think that part of your question is: I am not getting a lot of response from the emails I am sending out... so I ask you, are you asking for responses? If you do not ask, there is a very low probability that there will be a response.
Newsletters and other general mailers should not generate a lot of responses, but are very necessary to keep your group working. As long as you are getting your copy in your personal email account, you can rest assured that everyone who has given SFI a valid email address is getting the email, now the question is if they are reading it or acting on the contents.
