Very intelligent question. I guess you are venturing into pay per click (PPC) with the search engines like google, yahoo and Bing.
It is true that there are words that we need to avoid when setting up advertisements on search engines. These are called negative keywords and you can set this up when you set up your ads.
These negative keywords are not really the opposite of your positive keywords that you want to bid on search engine. These are actually related words to your positive keywords BUT does not exactly describe your products.
Example if you are selling big sizes pants. You don't want to bid on keywords like regular pants, or medium pants, because when your ads comes out you will not make sales because you are selling big sizes pants.
You see all are related to pants but regular pants, medium pants or even the word pants must be avoided and put into negative keywords.
You may ask why do we need to have negative keywords? This i to save you from unnecessary clicks that will not convert into sales. Take note that you pay every single click of your ads.
