First, I look into the genealogy report to see the progress of each affiliate on versa points, last date of login and other useful information that you may need to analyse to communicate with the affiliates. Send team mail or individual email to remind them to take actions. Give credit to those who are progressing. If they are online, you can chat with them or leave personal messages. Secondly, invite them to ask questions. Thirdly, be friendly in your approach. No pushing but need to make a choice that SFI business is about both individual and team building efforts. As a team leader, our task is to encourage them to take the next positive steps to achieve their goals(goal setting in their profile). Set a good example(duplication) that motivate them to follow. The rest may come from experience.

New Affiliates are not very clued with marketing if it is their first time with sales and marketing strategies.The SFI basics and Launchpad offered is self explanatory but you got to encourage them and remind them to go over the Do List and get their versapoints.
The most simple method is using the PSA and CSA mailer. This information in your email encourages them to read all the information you have e-mailed to them.

How important you word your message is vital because all they need is motivation and words of encouragement.Do not give them any ultimatum this method is discouraging because you make them feel less interested and it becomes a fault on their side.You really do not want that.Their are excellent tips and ideas you can use to motivate new affiliates.

You are the driving force to your new affiliates and in order to maintain them and inspire them it becomes your responsibility as a Team Leader

This is a good question. It's been hard for me to converse with anyone. I always send out emails to my team on a regular basis. I assume and hope they are reading the emails. I tell them if they need help or have questions, please email me. I let them know that I'm always here to help any way I can, but they must communicate with me. I have had a couple responses...which is good! I normally get a higher response from affiliates when I see that they are online. I ask how are they doing which they respond good...how are you? I then reply good...then I ask them about their business and if I can answer any questions. They usually ask me questions which I answer...so for me chatting with affiliates online is easier then sending email.

You can have your affiliates converse with you regularly by initiating the conversation first. Send them encouraging words and tips on how to succeed in this home business endeavor. Tell them that you are always available to help them if they will need you and better still encourage them to reach a level of accomplishment, say EA status,BTL status or higher and reward them with TCredits. Email them regularly, at least every three days and always review their VP ledgers so that you can monitor their lowest points and offer them your help,thus you can build good relationships with them.

Stay in touch with your affiliates regularly. Try to engage them, by convincing them about the SFI business and the success they can achieve from joining and by logging into their account daily. Point them in the right direction about new brand products they can also have, while getting those versapoints to move forward with their status. Let them know in the beginning, this is not a get rich quick scheme, and to engage themselves daily to improve their rank towards becoming a Team Leader! The higher the rank, the more money they can make. Recruit people they know to join SFI as well. Communication with your affiliates and your team, is an absolute must. You can't make your affiliates do anything they don't want to do, but trying to show them how simple it is to earn cash here is the best thing you can do, and only hope your affiliates will pay close attention to you, and decide to put forth the effort to make it work as a team. Keep it simple with them and communicate daily with your affiliates. Make sure they can contact you for any information or assistance with a problem they may encounter. That is a tough question to answer.

You can't make anyone do anything they don't want to. All you can do is try to keep in touch with them. Try personal email asking about how they are doing, maybe ask about their family, and fun things about the area they live in. Show an interest in them for more than just the business end of things. Sometimes people will warm up to you and get more interested if you try to be a friend and not just a business associate. Once you have them chatting with you, its easier to talk about helping them with their business.

Remember you want your affiliates to be long term and duplicate what you are doing so don't give up on them. You never know what is going on in their lives, maybe they just need time to get involved.

It is very good to get your affiliates to converse with you regularly even though i must admit that it can be a difficult task.

Send out your weekly team-mail.
Visit your genealogy as often as you can during the day to see if they are online and you can try contact them then.
View your Movers tab and offer commendation for there efforts so that they can feel your presence.
Check there VP Ledger regularly and offer suggestion as you see fit.
Try contacting them through telephone number if listed, facebook, twitter etc.
Always keep the communication positive

Keep sending those mails because even if they dont respond they may be still reading them.

So dont give up.

I think the best way to get them actively communicating with you is to use social networks particularly facebook chat. In my case I send messages to their inbox which is more liable to reading than mails. Most new affiliates are still getting a hang of SFI so it will be good to use IM especially for those who use mobiles.
Personally, I got very much interested in SFI with my sponsor using facebook chat.

Much said, you should contactthem where you know they are more often on the internet(skype,facebook,WhatsApp,YahooMessenger,G+,etc).

This is an interesting question.
I have since realized that it one cannot get an affiliates to do anything unless they desire it themselves. But all the same sending motivational messages and posting on your leadership page might influence one or two to respond and engage in communication with you.
Some affiliates hold regular jobs and have hectic schedules with very little time for their homepage; hence every time they get an opportunity they tend to want to focus on their daily actions and building their business than converse as such they interact very minimally with their up-line. I personally have only three affiliates who always respond to my messages or acknowledge having read my team mail; stream or blog. The rest don't, but that shouldn't discourage you and I from offering continued support and sharing tips and how as a team we could improve our performance; Because though some never write back, am positive that they do benefit from what you share with them and appreciate your coaching and mentorship... as long as we don't re-invent the wheel, lets keep on keeping on.

To get affiliates engaged and conversing regularly with you, the following are important
1 Use your weekly group mailer to send out motivational and positive affirmation words that will encourage them to get closer and learn from you.
