If you don't have goals, you have nothing to work for. You have no direction. So you're like a boat out in the ocean with no one at the helm. You're just drifting.

Setting goals gives you clarity of purpose. But they're not always set in stone. You can always change them, but it's better to make them high enough that you challenge yourself but not so high that they discourage you.

Ultimately we would all like to be number one, but realistically only one person can do that. I'm number one in class, which means I'm the only person who hasn't dropped in my class of who started on the date I did. This doesn't mean that everyone who started when I did is no longer here, but that others in my class are in a lower bracket than me. I set that goal a long time ago and have achieved it. Some of my other goals are getting close to being achieved, but this just means that I need to work harder in these specific areas.

When you take the time to set goals you will be able to see at a glance what you need to work on the most. They're simply a road map that you can follow to get where you want to be, months, a year, or years from now.

What kind of car would you be driving? What kind of house would you live in? Where would you want to live?

What really makes it fun is that now you can put up pictures of your goals. Find that car you want and take a picture, or the house you want, or how much money you want to make.

SFI makes this so easy! Take a few moments and set these up, even if it's just for fun! You'll start to see them happening in your life. Dream it, believe it, live it!

As for goal setting I think Napoleon Hill outlined it best in Think And Grow Rich.

The steps outlined by Hill are specific to making money but are extremely relevent to any goals you set for yourself.

1. Determine exactly how much money you desire – don’t be vague.

2. Determine exactly what you intend to do in order to earn the money you desire.What value are you going to offer? Remember, there is no free lunch.

3. Establish an exact date for when you plan to possess the amount of money you desire.

4. Establish a definite plan for achieving your desire, and start right this moment, whether or not you feel you’re ready.

5. Write out a clear statement of how much money you are going to acquire (the amount from step 1), what you intend to do in exchange for the money (the value from step 2), the date you’ll acquire it by (the date from step 3), and your specific, actionable plan for reaching the desired monetary goal (the plan from step 4).

6. Twice daily, read your written statement out loud to yourself. Do it once in the morning, and once at night. While you read the statement, visualize yourself executing on your plan and visualize the money in your possession.

Many complete the first 5 steps but fail to really commit and follow through with step 6. This step is in my mind the most important as it creates a burning desire to achieve your goals.

The only person between your goals and ultimate success is you. Own them and make them reality.

Goal setting is setting targets you want to achieve at a given time. It is very important in becoming successful in SFI for the following reasons.

2. It helps you to be focused. You do not get carried away by every program that people bring your way. You evaluate them to see if they would help you achieve your goals

Would you go on a vacation trip without knowing where you are going? Of course you wouldn't. You would get lost or worse. Setting your goals in SFI is the same thing. It gives you a way to map your path from where you are to where it is you are trying to get to. Knowing where it is that you are trying to go helps you find your path and avoid the pitfalls along the way. Knowing where you are going helps you plan as well. In this case, you strategy is rather like a map, perhaps better yet a list of things that you are going to need to do to get there.
For example, if I want to earn $3,000.00 a month in commissions, that meant that I need to average $100 a day. That is simple math, but I wouldn't know a target if I didn't know my goal. Knowing that, the next question becomes, "How do I earn $100.00 a day?" Well, how much do I earn from each sale? That tells me how many sales a day I need. Each of these questions gives me a signpost that I can follow to my goal. The beauty is, even if I don't attain my goal, I learned something that I can use to refine my goals for next time.

Another saying that I really like is: "A goal without a plan is simply a wish."

The greatest thing that is necessary for anyone's success in SFI or any business for that matter, is to create a plan and learn to follow it. Many times we say that we want to do something, but we don't put something in place in order for that hope/dream to come to pass.

The motivation to do another step must come from us, from within. We must not expect our loved ones or friends,upline leaders and teammates to push our backs just to make that big step.
Always make sure that you are connected, mindful, and focused to the bigger picture.

You should set goals so that you have something to measure your success by. If my goal is to score at least 300 VersaPoints per month that's pretty easy to achieve. I need to set more ambitious goals than that. If my goal is to become a Platinum Team Leader that may be even a little too ambitious if I just became an EA. It is possible though. Goals always should at least be possible. Ideally, they are possible, practical AND inspiring.

That is why you can have photos of your goals now. Having a photo of your dream car or dream house might inspire you to make the extra effort to reach your long term goals. You get there through a series of short term goals. If your progress to a goal can be measured it might by called an objective. Objectives used to be very fashionable in management - because they worked.

The key to making the SFI goals program work for you, and one you should be quite prepared to ask your upline for help with, is chaining the short term goals towards a long term goal. I have this ambitious goal, X. How best can I come up with short term goals a, b, c... to get me to X. Sometimes it is a lot easier to see the pattern needed in someone else's goals than your own.

Don't mix up routines, tasks, and goals. I have a routine where I check out my home page first thing every day. My task is to generate at least 10 points. My goal is to acquire at least 300 points per month through this activity. Some months I do not achieve this goal because I wasn't able to perform this task every day.

This whole thing might be part of a larger goal: let no potential VersaPoint go un-generated in any month. I need all the points I can get to reach my even larger goal: get to the Bronze Leader level. Even this is a sub-goal: qualify for matching points. After all, if the over-arching goal is to maximize one's potential SFI income, I have to succeed in the matching points component. (I have to do a lot else besides).

When should I set my goals? Use them as beginnings - the beginning of the year, quarter, month, on your birthday - any suitable "resolution" day. When should I review my goals? At the end of each and every day. What did I do (or not do) today to achieve my SFI goals? What goals should I set for tomorrow (That's the goal I'm going to put in to the SFI home page to get my daily goalsetting point from SFI).

There's a second, essential part to this next-day goal-setting routine. Pull up your calendar and your to-do list. Fill in your tasks (not goals) for the next day. Never go to sleep with the next day an undefined mish-mash of unplanned wishes.

Even if you are not a morning person (and I am most definitely not), beng able to start the next day on the tasks you have planned towards the goals you have planned, really will help you achieve them.

My answer is very simple. Goal Setting for any business is like having a compass in a ship. Without the compass the ship does not know where it goes. Similarly goal setting will help us to progress and achieve our progress in SFI.
