This is an interesting question and it appears different people have interpreted it in different ways. Some people have described the process of building your SFI business so that you become a leader. Personally I think the question is referring to the process of developing yourself as a leader - developing your own leadership skills. That is how I will answer.
Firstly to be a good leader one needs to be able to be a good follower and be teachable.
I make a point of making friends via a2a of people I think have become good leaders and asking them for their advice and guidance. I ask them how they achieved their success and see if any of what they did is a fit for me.
I attend leadership training programmes outside of SFI. There are heaps of these around and some are very inexpensive or even free to attend.
Develop your leadership skills in other area of life by taking some active role in the community and contributing to it positively - whether it be becoming a Sunday School teacher, a kids' sports coach, or joining the local school P&C association, or volunteering in any of a million ways. You really do develop as a leader doing these things and learning to communicate with other co-workers/parents etc.
You could also do a course in public speaking such as a Dale Carnegie or join Lions Club or Rotary or something similar, which can also help develop leadership skills.
And always remain open to learning from books - read, read and read some more. There is an absolute abundance of books written on leadership and I have loads of them in my personal library. Do a search on TripleClicks and you will find hundreds there too. The investment in these is immeasurable.
And finally, if you are serious about leading, then begin leading. People will begin to follow you as you learn how to lead. Communicate with people whenever you can. If someone sends you a friend request, accept it. If someone asks for your advice give it and give it ungrudgingly, but with a willing heart. And of course, it goes without saying, be a leader to your own team of PSAs and CSAs by writing to them every week and offering them any help you can.
I highly recommend you do all of the above if you really want to become a successful team leader in SFI.
