One experience I have with traffic exchanges (TE) is that those that work it are not necessarily looking for our kind of organisation to join, but just are looking for the same thing you are looking for; traffic to websites, so they click your ad to accumulate credits to pay for rotation of their own ads.
As you can see, you need to be a little bit creative to get the best out of a TE campaign by either giving something away to attract more attention or use a squeeze page to extract a very easy to give information from those clicking on your ad.
You may wish to offer a free e-book, important recipe, tcredits, landing page, own domain etc if they signup in order to increase the potential for conversion. In the same vein, you may decide to get the best out of your campaign by using a squeeze page to extract as much information as you can within the very short time your ad will be displayed. I advise you make it very simple and easy for potential prospects to complete, info like name and email address will suffice. It is worth the while if you are able to build a database of prospects for future contact when they are probably in a more relaxed mood to concentrate and communicate.
Please note that your main aim of using a TE should not necessarily be to drive traffic or hits to your website, but to use the TE to create better quality opportunity to contact prospects, which is a better strategy in my opinion.
