- Shipping and Handling

- Customs and Taxes
Every country has its own regulations, so the cost depends on the country to which you are shipping the products. The taxes and duties need to be paid before your consignment sets sail. Find out from the company executives about the requirements and regulations that need to be followed at the destination. It is more advantageous to opt for custom brokerage service which is offered by most worldwide shipping companies. Your overall expense will increase slightly but you’ll free yourself from a lot of trouble.

Oof!! This one is kind of difficult...

These are my thoughts: I would suggest contacting your Post Office, ask them if they have any kind of a chart - or better, a website - where you could seek rates world wide. Also find where you can find a list of no-ship countries, or those with odd restrictions on shippable products.

Try to pick the most common weight range of products - say, up to 10 pounds - then compare freight rates to all kinds of places - bottom half of South America, pick an average cost; top half, same; Mexico, Central America, India, Phillipines, Europe, Great Britain....

Try to calculate an estimated price for each region from all your choices, then calculate the AVERAGE rate for all.

Now you need to decide if you ship free (you pay), or customer does.

On all your products, list "no shipping fees", or list your flat rate shipping charge to all points.

If the average price is high, I would recommend you split the shipping charges, both parties paying half. In this way, all customers pay half, and overall, hopefully, you will end up breaking close to even on the freight. Monitor the charges for a while, see how it goes, then you may need to raise the freight a little if you are paying more than half overall.

I'm not sure how much of a task this would be, but best I can think of for now.

Once you have found out the costs involved for each Country or Region I would take a really close look at what you are trying to achieve with your store!
1) Do you have a good accounting of each and every cost associated with each sale?
2) How much can you make from the SFI and TripleClicks portion of the sale?
3) What points, Commissions and advantages are there and what are they worth to you overall?
Are you making sure that your plan is viable long-term?
Now having all of the information at your fingertips it may be that you could actually get further by selling at a break even or small loss position when you take the whole picture into consideration. A very nominal shipping fee or free shipping will get you more customers so I would consider letting one sale pay over towards the cost of another in order to build traffic and opportunities via contacts.
Do not make the mistake of looking at each sale as a must make short term profit situation build a strategy based on the long term and remember that losing a couple of dollars on an occasional sale could be what gets you to the top!

Hello thanks for asking the wonderful question.

To calculate fee to ship product worldwide you are expected to know the weight of your product. It's a necessary procedure to calculating the precise amount you should charge for Shipping and Handling.

Now you must understand that their are different delivery package method :
1. The Standard delivery
2. Express delivery
3. Expected Delivery and few others

Each of which means the number of days you are to ensure delivery of product purchased. The prices differs, and must be charged in respect to the weight of your product.

Another important thing is to ensure you note the Tax Rate for each country you are expected to be shipping to.
Countries that impose sales tax collection on Shipping & Handling expenses require that sales tax be applied to Shipping & Handling when the item that is being shipped is subject to sales tax.
Tax rate differ from on country to another and must not be calculated as such that will be same through out the country else you may end up charging in country with low tax rate and charging less in countries with high tax rate.

Now all this put in place will make you have knowledge of the precise amount you will be Shipping the product. That way you are been fair to the customers.
Let's talk about you been fair to yourself. You must make profit always not too much and not too small. 5 – 15% additional of the shipping price would be fair, and that way you have less complaint over Shipping and Handling issues.

This is very difficult question to answer. There is, unfortunately, no win/win answer to this dilemma.

Depending on the product and the ship from and ship to country, this will dictate the cost to you to ship that product to that country. Even in the best of scenarios, it is costly to ship international unless you are shipping in bulk. You can't provide free shipping as that will erode your margins but even if you provide economical shipping there is a hidden cost. That being taxes,,levy, and duties that are charged for Import/export. This is out of your control really and the receiver has to pay for this. A lot of times this is by surprise and can gouge you at rating time with customers blaming you for these charges when you are doing your best to get them the product you order. It is a slippery slope when shipping international and cost should not be the primary concern as prohibited items and tax and levy or duties should be your concern.

There are ways around this and require drop shippers or brokers in the countries where you ship that would have your inventory on hand. Then you can ship to your customers in there country. If you want to investigate a great program to see how it may be duplicated for your business and international shipments, then I highly recommend researching EBAYs new international shipping program where sellers only need to worry about shipping their products to a US warehouse and the international shipping and all it's complexities are handled by EBAY leaving the seller out of this and making it much more compelling for the seller to sell to other countries.

Personally, I think TripleClicks should provide the exact same program for their ECAs. Perhaps maybe they will. Until that time, there is no economical and process free method to ship products to your customers overseas. If it's not monetary, it is customer service that will eventually get hit due the many different complexities of international shipping.

I wish I had a better answer. I hope this sheds some light on a few ideas though.

I am also wanting to sell my products internationally, and I too want to make sure what I charge is fair for all parties involved.

I have spent some time reading over the forums, Ask SC and discussing with other affiliates, etc for researching this issue. This is the method that I am using at this time. I will admit it is a time consuming process, however I feel it will be worth it.

I have weighed each item that I am selling. I don't ave a scale at home, so I too the items to the post office and they were kind enough to weigh them. I contacted them ahead of time to inquire as to a good time of day to do this.

I then went online to USPS.com and entered the countries that I want to ship to and chose what I felt was the best option.

Before I enter anything in my store, I am looking at other shipping carriers besides USPS to determine the best rates.

Like I said it is time consuming, but I feel, for me, it will benefit all parties involved and hopefully encourage more customers to buy from my store.

Hi,
I am ECA also, so this is going to be from experience. I have products up for sale that I manufacture and others that I get from other companies that I like their products from around the world.

Here's what I did.
I started out by listing mine first, then went to the nearest post office to get the costing of shipping done for each product, so I could put that up as the shipping cost. I decided to choose a few countries though I intend to add some more.

As for the other products that are not directly mine, I make arrangements for free shipping with the manufacturing/distributing company. That way, products get shipped directly to the buyer. I only do this with companies I trust to a level, because if they don't have integrity, it will misrepresent my business also. I only deal with products that can be shipped free, except for a few exceptions.

Check out the International Flat Rate Packages and deals on usps.com. You can order the boxes for free. Starting with closer countries to the US first like Canada and Mexico. Look up the rates for those countries. Put those rates on your listings.

The Priority Mail Boxes can be used for International shipping and shipping within the US. I constantly compare the rates even for US shipping. Often I find that Priority shipping is the best overall practice.

It is also good to know that the flat rate includes insurance up to $50.
Even if the item is not breakable there is always the chance that the item gets lost during shipping. If the customer doesn't get the item and it is not insured getting the item cost is difficult using standard shipping.

Another really good option for you to consider is offering your products to re-sellers in other countries. Then you just ship multiple products once and help someone else make money also.

If you are an ECA, getting your shipping charges right can play a major role in how well you can do in the business. You can not therefore be too careful in that quest.

To get it right, here is what is best to do. You can approach and talk to international shipping companies like DHL and the like. They are always very glad to talk to potential customers. With the list of all the countries you propose to sell to, these companies can give you their charges by weight and mode of delivery. You can negotiate with them and obtain discounts based on the volume and frequency of business you intend to bring their way. These negotiations will benefit you and your customers around the world. Based on the information you garner, you can settle for the company or companies you may wish to use as shipping agents for your products around the world. That is what should guide you to fix your own charges for shipping on the products you are selling. That to my mind is the best way to go about it if you want to get it right.
