I have to admit, I have not found that secret weapon yet.
When I receive a new PSA or CSA I send an e-card as soon as possible and follow it up with a mail to introduce myself in more detail.
Sometimes I am lucky and the new affiliate is online - so I chat with them (if they see my message and they know how to use Chat)
While I chat with them I ask them if they need help and with what. I then make a point addressing their difficulties via e-mail - this is also a good way to verify their e-mail address.
If I do not have the opportunity to chat I look at their profile to see how far they came and I send them a mail with recommendations what to do next - I give them step by step instructions as easy to follow as possible
If they listed a language other than English as their language I make them aware of the translate tool in case they have difficulty understanding the English instructions.
I had some success but unfortunately the majority never react now matter what I do.
