Given that the gift-giving season starts in September, with several non-Christian religious holidays and continues through December, I start promotions for these in July. I start promotions so early because many of the drop-shipping ECAs can take a month or so to deliver. As we get further into the season, I switch from drop-shipping ECAs to ones with shorter transit times, particularly those featuring more individual products and projects, to appeal to the "last-minute" shopper.
