It depends in part on how much time and effort you invest into SFI:) With steady effort, not a lot of money, it is possible to get a return from the beginning, as I have done. Not a lot of money, but some every month since I joined SFI.
Now, "producing income" can mean a number of things, to me. If you are looking for substantial, supportive, sustainable income, I would say you could reasonably expect to invest good solid work for at least 2 years. This is just a rule of thumb estimation, though, because it is difficult to predict how things will come together for any of us.
Success factors involved -- activity levels of affiliates, your activity level, how many P/CSAs you acquire, etc. -- make an exact estimate difficult.
You need to allow however much time it takes to reach the reasonable goals you have set for your business, and continue pressing forward until you reach them! As long as you are moving upward/forward, then you need to stay until you reach your destination, then you can coast along and reap the rewards!!:))...
