I think it will depend on you as a person. Offline recruiting is not my thing. I only do it if friends or family ask me about it. I take on responsibility for what I do and my relationships are too important to me. If it works out for them there is no problem but if it does not I do not want them to blame me because they spend money and effort and got nothing in return. Unfortunately people tend to blame others when they fail.
I will also recruit strangers offline when they see my wave 3 banner and ask me about it. Maybe it is not the right way - but I do not approach people and push them. I hate salespeople that is trying their best to convince me and they have this rehearsed speech they are trying on me. The moment they come with these phrases like: What if I tell you ...... blah blah blah, they kiss any chance they had of selling it to me goodbye. If they tell me they know more about my personal financial situation than I do they are very likely going to be rudely interrupted and send on their way in no uncertain terms. Because I hate it with a passion I will not approach other's like that. I approach them in the same way I have to be approached if you want any chance of success. I give them the facts and maybe a flyer or business card and answer their questions.
Offline I also put flyers on community boards and some of our boards at supermarkets have little pouches to put business cards in. I use that more than anything else offline.
I have more success with online recruiting because once again - you are not pushing anything down anybodies throat. If they react to an advertisement they are interested. Online you can push a little more by following up to find out if they received the information, what they think about it and if they have any questions. Just do not spam them.
The easiest way is to buy your affiliates or buy S-builder shares, join a co-op. This means you will have a team but it does not mean they will be active.
I find it easier to motivate my team than to recruit them.
Offline in my day job I've worked on both sides of the coin. I worked as internal sales rep and my main function was to keep my profile of customers happy. I was very successful in this. The key was that the customer is King (not always right) and the buying power is with them - your power is in treating them so well that they want to deal with you and buy from you. Now I am in purchasing, I am the customer, the balance of power is with me now. I have more than one supplier for the same products. Some times the price and terms decides where I place my order but many times I get the same prices and terms from more than one supplier - who do I order from? You guessed it - the one with the best customer service.
Why do I tell you about sales when your question is about recruiting? Because recruiting is sales. You have to sell the concept to the prospective affiliate. What is your strength? Know yourself and use what you have.
