We all understand how to translate our messages to other languages using translation tools, as well as how to translate others' messages to us. However, the most important factor regarding translation are items related to idiomatic language and metaphor--these rarely translate outside of one's own country. For example, if I described someone's actions as "getting my goat," that would likely be translated literally, as if someone had managed to obtain a goat that I owned, rather than as that person annoying me. Error-free translation requires very concise communication, structured with the best grammar. Without that, messages get "lost in translation."
