Do you want traffic or do you want results?
I have owned two traffic exchanges and used them somewhat for over a decade and I can tell you that they are a challenge for getting results out of. Getting the traffic is easy, you trade 3 times the effort for 1/3 the return or you upgrade for a better surf ratio.
You can surf around 240 sites an hour in the average Traffic Exchange and as a free member with a 1:3 surfing ratio you will earn 80 visitors to your site per exchange per hour. If you use a tool like TE Browser you can surf up to 10 sites at a time to earn around 800-900 visitors once you add in bonus credits and surf prizes.
When you do this you can figure what you would make at a job which here in Arizona USA a minimum wage job is $7.35 and hour and see that 1,000 credits purchased in most exchanges is pretty close to that price, which is why many opt to get a second job and spend the money they make buying credits instead of surfing. even if you don't buy credits or visitors you can surf 3 hours a day and generate a sizable 2400 to 3,000 visitors a day.
Getting results though, how do you do that?
The funny thing about these exchanges is nobody joins them to find a program to promote. Every member starts surfing because they are in a program they think is amazing and are looking to generate traffic and hopefully get sign ups. Since they aren't looking for a business to join it is easier to attract their attention with offers of more free or low cost traffic for the program they are in.
If you create a lead capture page and offer a free report in exchange for the ability to send them an e-mail offer you might have a chance of signing them up if they tire of their current company. Sad to say the ones who are hopping program to program however tend to be the ones that will work hard in month 1 and be gone by the end of month two. But one thing remains is they will need traffic regardless of the program they are in so offering them traffic resource, reports, and e-books offered at TripleClicks, and memberships to other exchanges can often generate added income for buying targeted paid advertising with.
How do I maximize surfing time?
I personally created a funnel system that has been copied by numerous other marketers and traffic exchange admins back when I owned my first TE a decade ago. The funnel works like this.
You join enough exchanges to be able to use a tool like TE Browser to surf 10 sites at a time. You select one site that gives you credits for active referrals when they surf, and set all other exchanges to promote that one surf so you get a steady stream of referrals that can pay you cash and traffic. In my funnel site I currently have nearly 70 direct referrals and add about 4 per month and I surf maybe 3 hours a week. If I did 20 hours a week surfing I could easily get 20-40 new referrals per month that I earn up to 5% of the traffic they earn from.
My funnel site pays traffic out on multiple levels so I also earn when their referrals surf which is why this next step is so important.
In my funnel site I promote a lead capture page that gives away my free traffic report sharing this funnel system so that my downline in that exchange can also build massive surf teams of their own. Right now I am getting off nearly 70 members in my downline there and extra 1,000 to 1800 visitors a month even when I don't surf myself, plus I earn regular cash commissions which help me be an Ultimate Member for the best surf ratio, most levels of downline, and highest commissions.
I can use banners, text ads, and credits to promote my SFI gateways and splash pages and not worry about having to spend countless hours surfing to generate thousands of free visitors.
The last thing I will share on conversions wise is that most surfers have a tool like Te Browser or just use a multi tab browser to manually surf a minimum 5 exchanges at a time. As such any ad you place in an exchange will have 1.5 to 3 seconds tops to catch their attention before they click for next tab or click to get a new ad, so exchanges are where you go bold or go home. Don't lie or mislead anyone but put your best pitch in 8 words or less in bold type with some type of catchy graphic. Have splash pages open your gateway in a new tab and keep capture forms to just name and e-mail address.
May these tips bring you the best possible results out of a tough environment.
