The concept of traffic exchanges is simple. You have to view other marketers ads to have your ads seen. It's a give and take. Most exchanges require that you surf so many pages to have your ads in constant rotation. Again, this is a give and take. Most marketers don't realize that they get more than what they give when they use effective landing pages and spend the time necessary to rank in the search results.
Over the years, search engines change how they evaluate data to index pages which will allow them to get more organic traffic from them. Despite, these changes basic concepts like link popularity, content relevance, stickability, alt tags, meta tags, and all the rest still play into the equation of traffic to your SFI gateways. Bottomline, if you place your gateways on high ranking exchanges and maximize hits on those exchanges your gateways will get more relevance in the search results and more potential sign ups.
Armed with the knowledge of how the traffic exchanges work, one can drive high traffic by using a plethora of high quality sites. Then tracking serves to show which exchanges yield PSAs not hits. The quality of the PSAs will vary but a star PSA can just as easily come from a free source as a paid source. The difference is in the volume of hits and PSAs acquired when you compare free and paid ads. So I use traffic exchanges to get traffic, search engine ranking, and PSAs. The most important factor is getting PSAs when it comes to any source of advertising.
