The thrust of what I would say would be to encourage him to continue working his SFI business. He would be gently reminded that SFI is just like any other business in that effort and hard work is indeed needed. Be patient. His thinking is not out of the ordinary. Many people think of quitting just before they make their break or success.
I would have a look at his VP Ledger and his Profile if I were not already familiar with these and use the relevant information there to encourage him to continue.
I would point to those members who are successful in SFI and try to use them as examples of those who persevere. There are some very good testimonials from those who have done well in SFI but had to really work and struggle at the beginning. Use them to encourage your affiliate.
I would also through all this make it plain that I am very willing to work with him, set goals with him and work out with him business strategies as necessary.
It’s really his decision and if he insists and decides to leave then I would wish him all the best and give him my blessing. I would also let him know that he would be very welcome to rejoin my team at SFI in the future. All he has to do to make contact with me when and if that time comes
