My experience as targeted audience member: I looked up for an exotic beaty routine tutorial based on a commercial. I came across some products recommended by different bloggers. One blogger cought my eye and I stayed on her website, quite low-budget by the way. I started following her online and looked up for products she used. Within one afternoon, I found myself craving hundreds of dollars worth in products she advertised, figuring out ways to get to that brand even if it doesn’t ship to my country. Quite obscure brand, I must say, nothing remotely popular.
What are you looking for is called TARGETED advertising. You can target your advertising in a free and paid way. You can target your advertising using different advertising services and target specific qualities to your audience- location, age, interests, previous purchases/actions, online behavior etc. For this you need to subscribe to a particular website or service for targeted advertising.
There are also free ways to get targeted audience, and that is trough interest-based online and social media activity. Now, I saw myself and lot of other marketers make one simple mistake that costs them a lot. And that is they focus their website, pages and other profiles directly around specific products or direct recruiting. I now realize that is a mistake. People are, in general, less likely to approach a page or a website that sends a direct message that it wants to ‘utilize’ them for it’s own purpose, like shopping or recruiting.
What I found was that there are far more successful advertising done when it revolves around interests. And those interests are exactly what will become your free targeted advertising. The more emotional and purpose-related you make your advertising, the more it will attract your desired audience. For example, if you are creating a business website, instead of making it about your business- make it about what it will do for your reader. Make it about freedom, self-organisation, self-improvement etc. and include your advertising links, banners etc. If you are making a website to sell toys, make it about children and their play, their relationship with their parents.
If you create a social media page, name it by some interested, not by the product. Believe it or not, people are not too curious to look for places where they can spend their money. I tell you from my experience as a customer, you need to attract them with what they want first- an interest, a purpose, a choice.
Your free targeted advertising comes from creating social media websites around popular interests. That’s how your prospects will come to you instead of you paying to come to them.
