I start with thinking what would grab my attention. I would keep it informative without too much information. For instance, a good clear image of what your advertising with a link to it and maybe a sentence or two to really grab there attention. Most people look at ads at the image that is what grabs their attention to "read further". My last ad I used a SFI banner that captured it al in one pick. Then in my text, I would put something like "Earn a steady income at home, its real, I done it!" also give them your e-mail address to make it personal, like someone is there to ask questions.
