Safelists, Text Ad Exchanges, and other sorts of traffic exchanges all have the same problem: They're advertisers advertising at each other, clicking on links or buttons or banners to earn credits without any real desire to invest in anything else. Sure, you might get few people who show just enough curiosity to investigate, but then you get the general attrition atop that. Some might describe this as cynicism... and it is.
I find that the best way to advertise is to do so where there's an actual chance to meet new people, like through a blog or other more entertaining site; I have even been known to advertise in print media in more exciting publications. The results are far more interesting.
