This is a question I have been asking myself. I see so many good answers with low votes and many not-so-good ones winning the first place.
Since the answers may appear at random, how often your answer appears would affect your score. This you have no control of. The earlier you submit your answer the more often it would appear.
I do believe that having a good knowledge of the topic or experience with the subject matter would get you more votes.
Presenting your answer clearly so the reader can fully understand would increase your chance of a 'YES' vote.
These are some writing tips that I think could make it easy for the reader to understand.
-Present your answer clearly in English, without spelling errors.
-Avoid too short or overly long answers.
-Use good paragraph structure, avoid long answers in one paragraph only.
-Use good punctuation marks, separate sentences with a period.
-Use bullets and commas
-Don't use another person's written material
