Hi Mary!
That's good question that every leader must ask him/herself. I'm a positive thinker. I like doing things positively. Rather than discouraging them I rather encourage them not to be Team Leaders. They say people are like fingers. Meaning that they are not equal or the same. There are fast learners and slow learners. There are people who can afford Standing Orders and those who can't, etc. As a Leader you must know your people. As a Team Leader, you encourage your people the differently. You encourage people according to their knowledge, capacity and strength. Those who have knowledge, power and capacity of being Team Leaders, don't waste their time by delaying them. The two main things that they must have is knowledge and a team to lead. Those who don't have knowledge, power or capacity of being Team Leaders, encourage them to do what will make them to gain what they are missing to be Team Leaders. Tell them the truth that they are not ready and you don't want them to to bounce back and front of being Team Leaders one month and the next month they are back to EA because that will discourage them and end up quitting.
I think this will help.
Thank you.
