First of all, the fact that you are concerned and that you care is a great start because that means you're doing all that you can to help people achieve what they say their goals are.
Secondly, accept the fact that there could be things in their lives that are forcing this to happen. So as a good leader, reach out to them, keep communication going. Keep them in the loop even if your initial contact isn't getting them to respond because you never know. You may say something that catches them and then they'll get back in touch with you.
Finally, while you're keeping the lines open, turn your focus to the others who are working it and on the verge of moving forward.
Attrition happens; we can't control it. What we can control is how we respond to it and the first thing to remember is to keep the communication lines WIDE open until they choose to close it off.
Great luck to you!
