I believe it is mostly a matter of personal preference.
One must learn how to use the auto-bidder so as not to fly through all your TCs before you realize it!! There are settings to use for starting and ending dollar amounts. I've only tried it once, didn't care for it.
When not using a-b, you have more control over your bidding. It's not advisable to get into a bidding war with anyone, as it's basically just throwing TCs away. Every time someone bids, the clock starts over, so no gain. Pace yourself, be patient.
Watch the other bidders, control your bidding flow, hope you can outlast the others while staying within your planned bidding budget.
Personally, I think it's better to not use auto-bidder.
