Well I guess basically there are no hard and fast rules to which is better to each it's own however for me I guess that I would opt for both particularly handing out TC Gift cards as tips or incentives or pass out to strangers whom you meet and offer it to them on an open mind basis brings me better results even though distributing it online is relatively much easier as the response can be rather warm the only caveat is you never know whether they are genuine or even the same person out to milk you by say setting up several emails etc
That said I prefer distribute it face to face rather than online even though at times I do embark on some small campaigns and offer them as prizes
