A major web mail provider recently overhauled their site to make it more smart-phone friendly. Unfortunately, they made it much less computer friendly in the process. As customers headed for the exit in their thousands, they were forced to re-introduce some of the features computer users had liked about the site, as options, so they could appeal to both types of user. They were so intent on moving forward they almost forgot to take their existing customers with them!
As more and more business is done online, business cards are becoming less critical to success, but it would be foolish to close the door on this still-massive market just yet.
There is a saying in the advertising business - sell the sizzle, not the steak! That is what you want your card to do.
A good business card should look clean and professional, give your name and contact details, and just enough information to make the person want to know more. Instead of just saying SFI or TripleClicks, add a short quotation from the site. For example, if you are targeting ECA referrals, try using the line from the banner - "Expose your product to millions of potential new customers at TripleClicks. Find out more at...". If you are targeting SFI affiliates, try "Worried about your retirement? We can help. SFI can show you how to create an immediate supplemental income stream. Find out more at..." If you have a blog or web site other than the corporate gateways, put those on the card rather than the gateways. This allows you to give them a reason to have you as their sponsor. That way if they file the information and come back to it later, they are more likely to sign up through you, rather than just searching for SFI or TripleClicks, signing up directly and being assigned to another sponsor.
