Only tell them about things you know for certain to be true. Without using bragging words or tones, you can tell people how much time and money you have saved by shopping online at Tripleclicks; awesome prizes you have won in Pricebenders for a fraction of their retail price; you're saving up commissions for a really cool vacation!!
Point out, using the compensation plan as your "chart", how having xxxx... members in your downline creates revenue for affiliates. Point out the large numbers of Team Leaders, and EA2s, who have been here MANY years as back-up to the statement "...if it wasn't happening [making substantial money], these people would not still be members here..."
Use your imagination, be creative, but totally honest and above-board!! You should also let them know that large results require time, effort and perseverance...
