There are millions and millions college students all over the world - that group spend more time together than any other social or professional group. To put that further into perspective, that generation is now estimated to be the largest consumer (and not only) group in history.
Many marketing departments seem to lack a marketing plan for continually marketing to the young and restless. Moreover, marketers speak the same language to the 60-year-old customer from Japan and the 21-year-old living in San Francisco, and they also use the same marketing language and tools.
So, how can you do better than most and effectively market to students? Let's look at few simple steps.
1. Keep things simple
Having a common courtesy and sending short messages are better than trying to be hip.
2. Provide an incentive
Whatever your criteria to differentiate for the student segment is, make sure it includes an incentive.
3. Use targeted marketing
Create separate landing pages, email marketing strategies, social media accounts, and mobile applications so that you can segment your message. Present your unique value proposition in a channel dedicated to students. Create video tutorials - YOUTUBE REACHES MORE ADULTS AGED 18–34 THAN ANY CABLE NETWORK. Did you think TV was the best way to reach the masses? Well, I think you’ll have more luck reaching them through YouTube. Of course, one video won’t necessarily reach more viewers than a cable network could, but utilizing a platform with such a wide user base makes a lot of sense.
