Honestly, I'd have to say if you are not willing to devote the time and research required to do SEO then just pay someone to do it for you. But if you really want to learn about all the 200 or so possible factors that play into SERPs, then go for it! Read everything you can and apply it. Then you will have a site that is optimal for SEO. Unfortunately you were led to believe that sites that rank well make money. While most do get good traffic converting that traffic into CASH is a horse of a different color!
