Be patient with them, some people ask the most obvious questions but take time to give explanations. we are all different.
Guide them where necessary, too much information or too many messages can be a turn off.
Don't get angry if they do not follow your advice, again more patience may be required for those who do not listen.
Let them know that you may not know everything perfectly, accept when you do not know something instead of misleading them.
Be friendly, create time for communicating with your downline (not when you just want to collect weekly points), that way they can be encouraged to communicate back. regular follow up at least twice a week is ok.
