I think there is no rule how often you should communicate with you sponsor or co-sponsor or some of you're uplines.
Every time you will need help about something don't hesitate and talk with them. If your sponsor is someone you know private ,it's great because you will be more comfortable when you will talk to him.
I'm happy about it because my sponsor is a friend of mine and I communicate frequently with him.
But however is up to you how often you will communicate with them.
