If a stranger asks about the banner, it means they are interested in new things. Buying online is still new for most people in my country, so I start with asking them if they buy online.
If they do, I tell them 3 sentences - 1 about how great TripleClicks is, 1 about what Wave3 is and in the last one, I give them a Gift card or two to try it or a Wave3 card, depending on how I likely I think they are to like TC.
If they don't, I tell them about my first online shopping experience (at TripleClicks, of course), promise it's easy, and then I give them a Gift card to give it a go. I usually don't offer a Wave3 card because I think first time shoppers wouldn't be a good target group for it.
I really like to keep it simple, and there is no point in a long talk on a car park - nobody would stand for it anyway. :)
