I do not believe there is one clear answer that will suit everyone here.
When buying in Affiliates through a co-op or other means you may access a larger proportion of people that will choose to sign up and do nothing. As your only connection with them is an email, there is no guarantee that they read, answer or acknowledge you at all. But then that is human nature. The beauty of this style though is that you are able to reach a wider audience and you will secure a few that are serious along the way.
By looking at only bringing on that you personally have sponsored you have greater control over who comes in and have the advantage of knowing each person and how you might best inspire them. While this is ideal it may take time to gain your goals and you must be prepared to accept rejection from those closest without it affecting your personal relationships.
The best option, I believe, is a mixture of both. Bring in what you can personally and use the resources made available in SFI to enhance your business. Either way you will learn as you go and find your own strengths to pass on to others.
