I would highly suggest learning both. While I have heard first hand information from team leaders who have built their strong down lines into several thousands-that your own sponsoring is the way to go which I agree with, I can not dispute the fact that I also know of some leaders here in SFI who have used magnetic sponsoring and purchase of PSA to grow a very HUGE down line. I can't say the numbers because they are freaking HUGE and they did this from PSA Purchase mostly.
So whether you decide to go for PSA purchase or self sponsor certain factors remain critical but the decision is entirely up to you.
1. It is a numbers game. We all know that the law of averages works here. When you enrolled or signed up with SFI on your first day I bet you were altogether in the thousands in your class. How many of you remained to the last round of the class contest? You are as right I am.
2. Quality and not Quantity matters
What do I mean by this? While some people might disagree with this. Experience has shown that every marketer has got to know how to target their advertising to the right people if you want to score good results. I have observed that the TL's here that are succeeding faster have learned how to work this process. Take your hook where the fish is biting.
3. Chose what you are comfortable with.
What do you think would be easier for you to master fast? Is it time convenient to you? Do you have the skill and tools to do it? If yes then go for it and work it like crazy. Keep the momentum going and very soon you will become expert in it and your team will start to grow at the same time.
4. Be an awesome sponsor
The leaders I have keenly observed here have read and understood what it means to Duplicate themselves while keeping their teams motivated at the same time.

In conclusion I would like to say that both methods work just great if you know how to do it, when to to it and how to it right. If however you are still new to the advanced world of Advanced advertising then you can start with the beginner and intermediate methods of advertising. Master them then scale up to other methods.
Lastly always track your results and hits to see which ads are performing great and which ones ain't to eliminate loss of ad spend.
