I am an advertising specialist for print classifieds by trade. Online classifieds are similar to print classifieds in that you generally get what you pay for.
Free ads are a bargain when considering the price alone, but when you figure in the time and effort and often lack of results, many free classified sites aren't a bargain at all.
I would advise someone looking for free classified sites to stick with only well known and highly trafficked sites like Craig's List or Backpage.com. Try to avoid the 95% that are full of junk ads and receive little traffic as they are not worth your time.
