Supply and demand is the key in any marketing strategy. You basically need to find a supply that will meet a large demand. But not just to meet a demand, you need to give people a compelling reason to buy from you.
With the world growing at such a rapid rate thre are more and more business being built. You pretty much need to offer something nobody else does. And it doesn't mean you need to offer a product no one else has, although that would be key to your success as well. You need to give people the why and what for's. Why they need to buy yours instead of your competitor's. What is in it for them and what it will do for them.
Don't be an average Joe. Anyone can open an online store, it doesn't take brains or savy. What does take brains and savy is offering a product or service that no one can compete against and yet do very well at it. It will take hard work and dedication to come up with something.
I can't stress this enough, it must be your passion. So don't pick just any product because XYZ company is making a killing at it. Sell something you love and are passionate about, that you are highly knowledgeable with and skilled with. You need to be a rock star!
Figure out what you are good at, very good at. Then find related products or services that you can make big, bigger than life! And don't be mediocre. Be the person everybody and his brother runs to and then you'll begin to understand what it takes to be a success.
