Already there is an information overload at SFI. If I start communicating for reasons not that important for the promotion of SFI or my team, it would be unwelcome.
To my mind, all the communication that I send to my team should be absolutely to the point, whenever there happens to be an essential point to be mentioned in order to promote my team's (indirectly, my) interest as well as the interest of promoting SFI for everyone's benefit.
Weekly mails for the entire team may be all that should be enough. Besides, if there is some achievement demonstrated by someone, a brief message of congratulation, by way of encouragement, should be in order. And, if one of my team members is in need of some assistance, surely a short message of advice or help would also be necessary.
I will consider any communication, not in the interest of advancing the team members or promoting SFI for the common good, is too much and unnecessary, I think.
I hope this answer will be helpful.
