This is a question everyone has probably asked at some point. Here's what I think.
I believe you should encourage affiliates from the first day in your welcome message. Make sure the affiliate knows how to get started in that message.
Next, starting with the welcome message and along the journey, tell the affiliate that you are there to help and encourage in any way possible.
If the affiliate asks questions, answer them as soon as possible.
When the affiliate reaches a milestone or a goal or a level, say, EA or some Team Level status, congratulate and reward that affiliate. Maybe you could reward with co-op shares or a gift certificate or TCredits. Be sure to post on the Stream those accomplishments.
There's only one other thing I must add here. If the affiliate does not wish to continue with SFI or just doesn't move in the business, still encourage, but don't be pushy. Most people do not take advantage of this unique type of a business model. It's not for everyone. If the person requests to leave, then direct that affiliate how to opt out. Wish the affiliate well in future endeavors and don't live in sadness. Stay positive. You will surely do well if you work hard and train your affiliates to do as you do and you show, by example, how to succeed.
I hope this advice proves to be helpful to you and to all others who ask this question.
