I have both a traditional business and of course SFI so let me tell you my findings.
Firstly, SUPPORT!
In my own business I am very aware that I am on my own and any problems I have can be difficult and time-consuming (therefore expensive)to find answers for. With SFI, not only do I have a wealth of information here that I can look through, I also have AskSC and ALL the affiliates to help me. That in itself is a huge help and very reassuring.
Secondly, INVESTMENT!
To set up my business I had to consider, and pay for, the following: Several phone lines (hardware and contracts for each), several desktop units (software and hardware), printer/copier/scanners, furniture desks/chairs/plants etc, stationery and consumables, cost of premises and all utility bills as well as consultation fees for my accountant and business registration costs. Now I managed to do this fairly inexpensively and it cost me around £6,500 ($9,400). That's a SET-UP cost, obviously I have ongoing costs.
To set up my SFI business it cost me (frantically calculates...) NOTHING! I have now set up a Standing Order which costs me $36 a month.
Most importantly, the potential in my SFI business is the same as in my own business.
There are many more differences to be found, however the above are the main ones for me (and for most people I would guess)
